Hiking Nyoho Mountain Nikko Japan is simply beautiful. It’s location is tucked away northeast of Nantai Mountain and it’s trailhead is a bit difficult to get to. It is a good idea to hike to the hut between Nantai and Nyoho and climb Nyoho at first light on day 2.

There are always fewer hikers on Nyoho Mountain than the nearby hiking trails of Shirane and Nantai mountains.  The easiest way to get to the trailhead at Shizu hut is by a 4×4 vehicle.

It’s a steady climb for most parts of the trail with great views and barren landscapes.  A beautiful aspect of climbing Nyoho is that there aren’t many objects  in view to distract the feeling of being hundreds of kilometers from of civilization.  Most of what you see is sky and mountains.
