Group Events Venue — Nikko National Park, Japan

Earth Hostel Nikko Riverhouse is a private event venue inside Nikko National Park — sitting directly on the Kurokawa River, with no neighboring properties in any direction. It sleeps 26, expands via on-site camping and RV pitches, and is exclusively yours from the moment you book. From music festivals and DJ events to meditation retreats, yoga weekends, and corporate offsites, the location does the work. From ¥4,500 per person per night.

A Private Venue Like No Other in Japan

Finding a private venue in Japan that gives you real freedom is harder than it sounds. Most rural properties sit within earshot of neighbors. Most urban venues have noise cutoffs and hard curfews. Earth Hostel is different: it occupies a bend of the Kurokawa River inside Nikko National Park, in Okorogawa village — where the nearest neighbor is far enough away that your event is genuinely your own.

That means music until sunrise if you want it. Morning meditation with nothing but river sound and birdsong. A DJ set as the sun drops below the cedar ridge. Or a corporate offsite where your team actually disconnects, because there is no city to leak back into. The venue fits the event — not the other way around.

Spaces and Capacity

The hostel sleeps 26 across four rooms: a 10-bed dorm, an 8-bed dorm, and two annex rooms sleeping up to 4 each. The common room converts to accommodate 8 more for sleeping, or can be kept as event space, workshop area, or a gathering room. For larger events, on-site tent camping and RV camping extend capacity further — making the property workable for music festivals and multi-day events that need more beds than the building holds.

Outdoor space runs along the riverbank and is usable for stages, sound systems, yoga platforms, or evening gatherings. The Kurokawa River is accessible directly from the property — river swimming and bankside setup are both possible depending on season and event format.

Pricing

From ¥4,500 per person per night. Minimum booking: 18 persons. Whether your group is 12 or 18, the minimum charge covers 18 beds — ¥81,000 per night. Groups of 18 and above pay per actual headcount. A small premium applies during Japanese public holidays. Camping and RV pitches are priced separately — include this in your enquiry if needed.

All bookings are exclusive use. There are no shared bookings at Earth Hostel.

Past Events at Earth Hostel

Earth Hostel has hosted music festivals and DJ events — the kind that run late, use real sound systems, and make full use of the riverside outdoor space. No noise management, no neighbor complaints, no pressure to wrap up early. If you have tried to find somewhere in Japan to host an event like this before, you already know how rare that is.

Open Season

Earth Hostel operates late March through mid-November. This window covers Nikko National Park’s most dramatic seasons: cherry blossom in April, summer river swimming and forest heat through July and August, and the koyo autumn foliage from October into November. The calendar is finite — peak dates fill early.

Getting Here

Earth Hostel runs a shuttle from JR Nikko and Tobu Nikko Stations. The easiest route from Tokyo is the Tobu Limited Express from Asakusa to Tobu Nikko Station — around 2 hours. JR Shinkansen to Utsunomiya, then local train to JR Nikko, is also possible. For groups arriving by road, on-site parking is available. Larger events with camping guests can discuss vehicle access and parking logistics at the enquiry stage. See the access page for full transport details.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I host a loud music event or DJ party in Nikko?

Yes. Earth Hostel has no neighboring properties, which means no noise complaints and no imposed curfew. Music festivals and DJ events have been hosted at the venue. This is one of the very few private venues in Japan where a full sound system and a late-night event is genuinely possible without restriction.

On-site tent camping and RV camping extend capacity further for multi-day or festival-format events.
