How do I get to Earth Hostel from Nikko Station?
From Nikko Station (Tobu Nikko Line or JR Nikko Station), Earth Hostel is accessible by local bus, taxi, or bicycle. The journey by bus takes approximately 10–15 minutes depending on the route. Taxis are available directly outside both stations. If you’re arriving from Tokyo, the fastest option is the Tobu Nikko Limited Express from Asakusa Station, which runs directly to Nikko in around 2 hours. Availability varies by season, so booking in advance is recommended, especially during autumn leaf season (mid-October to mid-November) and Golden Week.

What are the check-in and check-out times?
Standard check-in at Earth Hostel is from 4:00 PM and check-out is by 10:00 AM. If you’re arriving on an early train or late bus, please contact us in advance and we’ll do our best to accommodate an early/late arrangement. We understand that transport schedules from Tokyo don’t always line up neatly with standard hostel times.
What is the cancellation policy?
Generally, bookings cancelled more than 2 weeks before arrival are refundable. For exact terms, please refer to your booking confirmation or contact us directly. We book through Sirvoy, and cancellation details are clearly shown at the time of reservation.
Is Earth Hostel open year-round?
Earth Hostel operates across the main travel seasons in Nikko, except winter. Nikko is a year-round destination — spring brings cherry blossoms and clear hiking conditions, summer is ideal for river swimming and cliff jumping, autumn draws visitors for the famous maple and zelkova leaf colours, and winter offers snow-dusted shrines and access to the Yumoto Onsen hot springs. What outdoor activities are near Earth Hostel?
Earth Hostel is one of the best-positioned bases for outdoor adventure in Nikko National Park. Guests have direct access to hiking trails including Senjogahara, Hangetsu Mountain, Takayama, Nyoho, Toyama, and the Lake Chuzenji circuit. The Kinugawa (Black River) directly in front of the hostel offers river swimming and cliff jumping in summer. Are there onsen (hot springs) near Earth Hostel?
Yes — Nikko is excellent onsen territory. The closest and most atmospheric option is Yumoto Onsen, a traditional hot-spring village at the top of the national park, surrounded by forest. It can be reached by bus or as the endpoint of a full-day Senjogahara hike. Closer to the hostel, Yashio-no-yu is a well-regarded day-use onsen ideal for soaking after a long trail day. Is there parking at Earth Hostel?
Yes, Earth Hostel has parking available for guests arriving by car or campervan. Nikko is also accessible from Tokyo by car via the Nikko Utsunomiya Road (toll road), and the hostel’s riverside location makes it a natural stop for road-trippers and those doing a campervan loop through Tochigi and Fukushima. Please mention your vehicle when booking.
