SUMMARY:Yayoi Festival
DESCRIPTION:The Yayoi Festival Nikko symoblizes the beginning of spring.  Y
 ayoi means March on the ancient 24 season Japanese calendar.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\
 n\n\n\n\n\nThe festival\, which has been around for 1\,200 years\, celebrat
 es the coming of spring and hopes for good fortune in the year. \n\n\n\nThe
  shrine can be accessed by bus or an uphill 25-minute walk from Tobu-Nikko 
 and Nikko (JR) stations. \n\n\n\nThe World Heritage bus is also available f
 rom Nikko (JR) Station or Tobu Nikko Station and takes about 10 minutes to 
 Shinkyo Bridge.\n\n\n\npushing the shrine up the slope begins at Shinkyo Br
 idge\n\n\n\nThe festival is decorated in pink\, representing cherry blossom
 s\, which is the main theme of the event. \n\n\n\npink cherry blossoms sign
 ify spring\n\n\n\nThe Yayoi festival is a traditional event held every year
  from April 13 to 17\; (main event being 16th & 17th) at the Futarasan-jinj
 a Shrine in Nikko. Although the festival has modernized somewhat\, the trad
 itional rules and customs are still closely followed.\n\n\n\nthe start of t
 he slope leads to Omotesando \n\n\n\nshrine on Omotesando for Yayoi festiva
 l\n\n\n\nPortable shrines will be moved with much effort up the slope Omote
 sando street from Shinkyo bridge to Futarasan shrine. \n\n\n\nat the gate o

 utarasan Shrine\n\n\n\nIt is hoped that with such effort the reward of good
  fortune for the coming year will be plentiful.  It is a beautiful festival
  with so much spring color.  \n\n\n\nsamurai and monks\n\n\n\nhorse at Yayo
 i Festival\n\n\n\nVisitors can expect to see a variety of traditional Japan
 ese performances\, such as Kagura (a Shinto theatrical dance). \n\n\n\ndrum
 mers\n\n\n\nThe festival is a great way to experience Japanese culture and 
 traditions.   It is a time to appreciate the beauty of the world around us 
 and to celebrate the start of a new season.  \n\n\n\nSome of the shrines wi
 ll let you help push the shrines as they be getting tired and drunk on sake
  in the barrels at the back of some of the portable shrines.\n\n\n\nsake co
